OEKO-TEX certification

The topic of sustainability has become more and more important in recent years. Even when buying handicraft yarn, we want to know whether we can use the product we have purchased with a good conscience. Considering the prevalence of “fake news” nowadays, seeing information, certificates and labels from trustworthy organizations is an important piece of guidance.

Promoting sustainability and protecting the environment is a top priority for us at MEZ. For years, our own production facilities in Hungary and our suppliers both within and outside of the EU have fulfilled all of the applicable and strict European regulations and they have been manufacturing our yarns in accordance with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Since July, MEZ GmbH has had its own OEKO-TEX certificate, as many of our products are already certified as the highest product class. Human ecological requirements become stricter and stricter the more that a product has direct contact with the skin and the more sensitive the skin type is.

Product class I is the highest level, and it applies for items such as textiles and textile toys for babies and young children through the age of three (e.g., undergarments, rompers, sheets, bedding, stuffed animals, etc.).

Our certified yarns now proudly bear that OEKO-TEX logo on their ball band. The certificate applies to most yarns of our Schachenmayr range and we are gradually including it on each of our product ball bands.

The OEKO-TEX certificate has to be renewed every year and you can check the validity on the OEKO-TEX website. The testing criteria for this certification are very comprehensive and often go far beyond many of the existing national and international guidelines.
